The Hector Mine Earthquake and Aftershock Sequence

Below are a series of maps showing how the sequence of aftershocks decreased over the six week period that followed the initial Hector Mine M7.1 event. The earthquake location data come from the data archive of the Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC).

What is interesting to note is the percentage decrease in detectable earthquake activity and the change in geographical pattern and depth distribution. For comparison, look at the Landers aftershock sequence too.
